FORT ASSINIBOINE — Woodlands County councillors passed a motion during their March 13 meeting awarding a $320,048 tender to a St. Albert-based company to conduct extensive repairs to a bridge northeast of Fort Assiniboine.

The bridge structure in question, located roughly three kilometres south of Timeu, requires several fixes, such as crack repairs, concrete surface finish and sealing, pavement fixes and abutment modifications.

The county’s engineering firm, MPA Engineering Ltd., had originally anticipated the project would cost $352,245.

Director of infrastructure services Andre Bachand told council at the March 13 meeting that the tender had been advertised and let out for bidding.

Three bids were received, ranging from the low bid of $320,048, submitted by Access Bridgeworks Inc., to a high bid of $570,500.

MPA Engineering had recommended awarding the bid to Access Bridgeworks, Bachand said, adding, “They did do the checks on them and are satisfied they are capable of doing the work.”

Bachand noted the project had originally been part of the 2023 bridge maintenance tender but because of the high repair costs involved, it was deleted and brought forward to this year. The necessary funds had already been designated in the 2024 operating budget.
