Barrhead U13s storming through playoffs

Barrhead wins second-round matchup against Hinton in dramatic fashion

BARRHEAD - The Barrhead 13U-2 squad won both North Eastern Alberta League (NEAL) playoff rounds. In the first round, Barrhead faced Slave Lake, and in the second round, it was Hinton. Both series were a home-and-home total point series.

In the first series, Barrhead lost the first game at home 4-3 on Feb. 24, only to rebound in the second game the next day, taking it 7-1.

In the second series against Hinton, Barrhead lost 5-4 on March 2 on the road, rebounding to take the second game 6-4 in Hinton the following afternoon in double overtime.

Team manager Amanda Harding said even though Barrhead had won the game, 5-4, because of the goal differential, technically, the series was tied, so it needed to be decided in overtime.

This weekend, the U13U-2 squad continues its playoff run against Athabasca and will battle for the bronze medal the following weekend.
